The Amount of Friction Between You and the Goal

Most people don’t fail because they lack motivation.
They fail because there’s too much friction between where they are and where they want to be.

Friction is anything that makes the right action harder to take.

It’s the workout clothes buried under laundry.
The alarm that’s set too late.
The plan that’s vague.
The environment that works against you instead of for you.

When friction is high, motivation has to work overtime. And motivation is unreliable. It comes and goes with mood, stress, sleep, and life.

That’s where discipline comes in.

Discipline isn’t about grinding harder—it’s about reducing friction so the right choice becomes the easy choice.
Laying out your clothes the night before.
Scheduling workouts like meetings.
Having food prepped instead of “winging it.”
Showing up even when you don’t feel like it, because the decision has already been made.

Discipline bridges the gap when motivation fades.

But there’s another level most people misunderstand: obsession.

Obsession isn’t unhealthy tunnel vision. It’s clarity.
It’s caring enough about the goal that you actively remove obstacles in advance. You don’t rely on willpower—you design your life around the outcome you want.

Obsessed people don’t ask, “How do I feel today?”
They ask, “What makes this automatic?”

They lower friction so much that progress becomes inevitable.

Motivation gets you started.
Discipline keeps you moving.
Obsession removes friction so you don’t stop.

If you’ve been stuck, it’s worth asking a better question—not “Why can’t I stay motivated?” but “What friction is slowing me down?”

Fix that, and everything changes.

If you want help removing friction from your fitness, nutrition, and routine—and replacing guesswork with a clear plan—start with a conversation.
